What this tool does

Lorem Ipsum Generator assembles filler copy from a fixed vocabulary of 141 Latin words held in the page, picking each one at random. The Generate control offers paragraphs, sentences or words; How many takes any count from 1 to 500 of whichever unit you picked; and Sentences per paragraph, which appears only in paragraph mode, runs from one to thirty. Sentences come out six to sixteen words long, and roughly three in five of the ones that run past eight words get a single comma dropped somewhere in the middle, so a block has the rhythm of prose when you glance at it.

The Seed field decides whether you get new text on every run. Left empty, the generator uses the browser's ordinary random number source and each press of Run gives you something different. Put anything in it — a ticket reference, a component name, a date — and the output turns deterministic: the same seed with the same settings returns character-for-character the same text, on any machine and in any browser. That is what makes the output usable in a test fixture or in a screenshot somebody may need to reproduce next month.

Two limits are worth knowing before you lean on it. The words are drawn independently of one another, so the result is not grammatical Latin and the same word can turn up twice in a sentence; it is texture rather than language, which is the whole point, but it will not survive anyone who actually reads it. The Format list is also narrower than it looks: HTML paragraphs wraps each block in a <p> element and does nothing else, while Markdown produces exactly the same characters as Plain text, since paragraphs separated by blank lines are already valid Markdown. No mode emits headings, lists, emphasis or links.

All of this happens in this browser tab: pressing Run makes no network request, so once the page has loaded you can disconnect and keep generating. The input box on the left is labelled Notes (ignored) and it means it — the generator runs from its settings alone and discards whatever is in there, including the line the Load sample button drops in. Beneath the output pane sit a Copy output button and, alongside it, a line reporting the units produced and the total word count; there is no file to download.

How to use it

  1. Choose the unit and the amount. Generate takes paragraphs, sentences or words; How many takes a count between 1 and 500. A blank or zero count is refused with a message, and anything above 500 is refused too.
  2. Set sentences per paragraph. Shown only when you are generating paragraphs. One to thirty, five by default, which puts most paragraphs between thirty and eighty words.
  3. Decide how the text opens. The Start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” checkbox is on by default and fixes the first sentence — or, in word mode, the opening nineteen words, cut short if you asked for fewer. Switch it off when you would rather the block did not announce itself as filler.
  4. Add a seed if you need the same text again. Leave it empty for fresh copy each run. Type a value and that exact output comes back every time you use the same settings.
  5. Pick a format and press Run. Plain text or HTML paragraphs; Markdown returns the same characters as plain text. The result lands in the right-hand pane with a Copy output button under it.

Common use cases

Filling a layout before the copy is written

A design needs text of a plausible length to show where lines break, how a heading sits above a body block and whether a card still works when the text runs long.

Finding out where a field truncates

Generate 500 words, paste them into a form field, a database column or a CMS excerpt, and see what the limit actually does rather than what the documentation claims.

Repeatable fixtures for tests and screenshots

Set a seed and the same dummy copy returns on every run, so a visual diff shows the change you made instead of new random text.

Judging a typeface or a stylesheet

Paragraph-shaped Latin keeps the eye on measure, spacing and colour rather than on the words, which is why type specimens have used it for centuries.

Questions

Is anything sent to a server?
No. The text is generated in this browser tab from a word list built into the page, so there is nothing to upload and pressing Run makes no request of any kind. The page itself has to load first, but after that the generator needs no network.
How do I get the same text twice?
Put any value in the Seed field. The same seed with the same settings produces identical output every time. Clearing the field returns you to fresh text on each run, because an empty seed falls back to the browser's ordinary random source.
Can I ask for a set number of characters?
No. The count is measured in paragraphs, sentences or words, and 500 is the ceiling for whichever you choose. The line under the output reports the total word count, so hitting a character target means adjusting the count and running again.
What does the HTML option produce?
Each paragraph wrapped in a <p> element and joined with newlines — no wrapper element, no classes, no attributes. In Sentences and Words mode the generator produces a single block, so HTML mode returns one <p> containing all of it.
What does word mode look like?
One run-on line with a full stop at the end and no punctuation inside it, since commas are added per sentence and word mode builds no sentences. With the classic opening left on, the line starts from those nineteen fixed words, so any count of nineteen or fewer returns nothing but the front of that opening, stopped at the count you asked for.
Is the Latin meaningful?
No. The words are drawn at random from a fixed list, so the grammar is nonsense and words repeat. It is built to look like prose from a distance, not to be read — if there is any chance a reader will read it, write real text instead.
Why is the input box ignored?
The generator runs entirely from its settings and has no use for input. The box stays on the page because every text tool here shares one layout, and it is labelled as ignored so nothing you type is lost by surprise.
